Can I use Macbook charger to charge iPhone or iPad?

And if you plug the macbook into the USB-C port on the back of the charger too - can you charge both at the same time? Would there be an advantage to that over doing it the 'normal way' (e.g. faster charging)?

You have two advantages: faster charging (only with iphone 6,6 plus) and you can travel with only a charger.

For the first answer, yes, you can charge your iPhone directly from Macbook even if the Macbook is not connected with the charger.
