Can I use my MacBook in clamshell mode with no display attached?

I want to use my old MacBook to remote into from my iPad but I always have to leave the screen open. Is there anyway I could leave the screen closed and actually be able to access it without it going to sleep all the time?

Application called Nosleep will do this perfectly. Basic tasks shouldn't be an issue at all. More demanding tasks may need the clamshell to be opened for proper cooling.

Like mentioned watch what the MB is running.

Would also advise, if not in place already, some kind off stand that raises the macbook of the say desk surface. You are crimping its heat reduction setup clamshell style so will be relying on air flow over and under the the shell solely for heat dissipation.

This is your best option, this is what I do when I have my macbook pro connected to the tv while watching movies
