I just bought new Mac book pro 2011,
and i figured that my old imac has OSX 10.5.8
My MBP has OSX10.6.7, So i want update my imac too.
Can I use my macbookpro install disk for this?
thank you guys~!

With all due respect, I cannot even begin to imagine how many times I have been asked that question.

No, you can't.
Essentially, when you have discs which have a silver grey printed side, you can only use them for the computer they came with ; when they're black, you can use them with any compatible Mac since those are retail disks.

You can connect your iMac to your mbp with target disk mode (connect them with a firewire cable and press "t" while booting the iMac) and install it with your mbp on your iMacs disk. Haven't done this in a long time, but it should still work.

That's interesting. I've never tried that. But would that be entirely legal ?

You cant use a grey disc that didnt come with your Mac to re install OSX. But you can use any OSX grey disc 10.5 and newer to boot into disk utility and repair stuff.

Ive done this with 10.5 and 10.6 discs to repair 10.4 right up to 10.6.7 Macs with no problems.
