Can I use old Magic Mouse 1 with new MBP?

I have an old iMac from 2011 with the old Magic Mouse 1.
I'm trying to use that mouse on my new MBP.
In the Mouse section of System Preferences, the Magic Mouse shows as "Connected", but the mouse doesn't actually control the pointer and clicking the mouse does nothing?
So I'm beginning to wonder if only a Magic Mouse 2 will work with the new MBP???

I use a magic mouse 1 I bought in 2010 with my 2019 16" MBP so it should work. I do occasionally have connection issues but I just figured that's from 10 years of getting tossed around in my laptop bag.

Thanks for the reply!
I disconnected the mouse, reconnected it to my iMac again, disconnected it and reconnected it to the MBP and now it works fine!
Should have tried that before posting here.
