Can I use this cable to capture my old VHS tapes?

I found a bunch of old VHS tapes and want to upload them to my macbook or imac. Can this cable

be used for connecting the VHS player to my 2009 Macbook or my 2010 iMac? I am sure iMovie will capture the movies if it recognized the connection through USB..... amazon reviews seem to say it works fine, but I just want to make sure it works fine with a Mac....

I cant see this cable working without some 3rd party software. But for less than $4 cant hurt to try?

There are some pretty negative reviews. It's a risk, but not much of a risk money wise. Check out all the reviews.
