I have an iPhone 4 16gb, I bought it officially with a plan from AT&T, I am going to travel to India soon and wanted to unlock it so that I will be able to use it with a local carrier in India, just wondering whether I will face any problem in using my unlocked iPhone 4 on AT&T after returning from India.

Non at all. Unlocking it allows it to be used with most carriers using GSM. So you should be fine.

Dont need to go pre-paid

I already have a post-paid Indian sim card with an Indian number since I was living in India before, it has everything including gprs(edge) activated on it, and its bill per month is minimal compared to the humongous AT&T iPhone bill!!!

Lucky you! It would love to have an extended stay in India!

As the previous folks mentioned, you shouldn't have any trouble using your iPhone upon your return to the States. However, it still might be a good idea to restore and lock it again after your trip, just in case you ever need to take it in for warranty repairs.
