If I connect my Western Digital 500 GB external hard drive up to a computer using the USB port, then can I daisy chain a firewire camcorder to the hard drive and use it with the computer? Or is that impossible?

I hate the fact that the Macbooks don't have firewire, other then the white one. or the Pros.

Nope, not possible.

Darn. The new Macbooks look shiny and nice. But I edit videos on a Firewire external HD and a Canon HV20. Why did they remove the firewire port? Sigh.

In my mind, the reason for removing FireWire from the Unibody MB was three-fold.

1) Product differentiation from the Pro line.
2) If you look on the side of the Unibody MB, there is NO room for another port. They sacrificed functionality for form, which circles back to #1.
3) A lot of devices, even camcorders are now USB based. (crappy reason, but valid nonetheless)

They kept the FireWire on the Whitebook merely to make it appear they didn't intentionally cripple the Unibody, in my opinion.
