I have a DVD+DL recorder in my Windows box at work, but I don't have any DVD+DL media. Before I shell out for some, does anyone know if the G5 iMac can read this media?

I ran a test in terminal that says my iMac drive supports DVD+, but I don't remember it specifically mentioning dual layer (and I don't remember the terminal command and I can't find the thread that I initially read about it in... it was either here or at macosxhints).

It can play dual layer discs, I mean it have to be able to do that.
Many (if not all) movies on dvds are actually dual layered.

Just about every Hollywood movie is a Dual Layer disc. Every single DVD player I know of can read those DL discs. It is just the recording them that is trickier-- it is only recent that you can burn DL discs, before that you were limited to single layer discs.

But the question is -- can it play burned DVD dual layer disks? Not every DVD player that can play stamped dual layer disks can play burned dual layer disks...

i think the only thing that the iMac can't handle is double-sided discs.
no it would be those miniature disks since it is slot loading.

any type of dvd should work fine.

No I don't believe it can read nor write DVD-RAM discs. I believe you need a DVD-RAM Player/writer to use those discs.

Yup. Specialized stuff. Maybe not the drive, but the software is special. I don't get why you would want one anyways....

But yes. I Googled around some and it seems you should be able to. Theoretically.
