I have an iPhone 11 and a friend has an iPhone 16, and iOS 26 feels and looks quite different on these devices. And I don’t just mean how smooth it is to use, although that’s a big difference too, but the actual appearance. Neither of the phones has any appearance settings changed.

Really good question. I have a 14 plus and was fearful to leave 18 and go to 26 after reading about the issues people complained about after updating to 26. I finally updated and was surprised to find no issues and was pleased with the new look although minimal. My 14 has no AI setting in settings but your friend’s 16 does and your 11 doesn’t either. That is why they look different I guess. At this point I am reluctant to get a newer AI phone

They look absolutely identical on my iPhone 17 Pro Max and my iPhone 12 testing-device. I have them side-by-side at the moment.

What parts do look different in your opinion? What appearance exactly?

Older phones can’t do the animated icon edge shimmer
