I have my i5 which no longer use as a phone, and removed SIM since I don't want to waste battery on cellular connection (yes, even if it's not actively used, cellular antenna is still powered, and I believe there's still some "pinging" going on btw phone and towers).

But I want to know and be sure that I can still make an emergency call with it?

Yes you can, even if you don't have a SIM card.

The SIM card is just to authenticate you to a carrier, the phone can still make emergency calls without one.

Thanks guys. Kinda tempted to test it, just to make sure, but don't want to actually call 911. LOL

Don't, the emergency line is for just that... emergencies.

Imagine if everyone spammed it out of curiosity? People with real emergencies wouldn't get through.

My excuse would be that my hair got stuck in my iPhone. Oh wait... it's i5, it doesn't have #hairgate!
