can iPhone record audio amazing like the MacBooks?

hi I am looking into recording attractions at dl. Does the iPhone 3Gs mic record like the macbooks do or is it like the 2g iPhone? Or can I use the iPod headphones mic with a third party app from the app store?

Using apps like EccoNote Pro, I have been very pleased with the audio clarity and fidelity of the iPhone internal mic. It is best used for close-range recording, although it has worked fairly well with recording a lecture from across a room. I think that only the iPhone's supplied headphones + mic will work for recording. I don't believe that the new iPod headphones with mic and volume controls will work with the iPhone. I do not know which apps are compatible with the external mic.
