iPod touch Can Itouch handle downloading HD movies?

So I can rent movies from apple, But none have been 1080 hd resolution. Is it possible for me to download movies put them in my itouch and hook them up via the apple supper duuper $50$ av cable to my hd tv and watch a movie in 1080 resolution? The closes movie I,ve watched to "NICE" was the Incredibles at 480i resulution. I know the AV cable is supposed to go as high as 1080, but can the touch handle it? Like always, thanks in advance and have a nice itouch weekend.
