Hi,

My Mac has an SSD with limited space. I was wondering if Mavericks can be set up so that my iTunes data & my iPhone backups can be set up to reside on an external HD.

Thanks.

Hi,

for iTunes, yes no problem : you can move the iTunes Media folder to an external hard drive.
Warning : you must do this as explained here : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

As for iPhone backups, this is another story : they are stored in your user Library, not in your iTunes folder.

Path : ~/Library/Application Support/MobilSync/Backup

I don't think you can (easily, at least) move them to an external.

Practically speaking, it's difficult to get your backups to live elsewhere. You could try a symbolic link for the backups folder, might work - I've not tried it.

I'm purposely not going to give steps for doing that as it's something you should thoroughly understand first, so I'll let you research it.
