One of the differences between the 1 gig duo and the 1.25 gig duo is the L2 cache. The first has 1MB L3 cache/processor while the other has 2MB L3 cache/processor.

Can we upgrade the L3 cache like we can add Ram or is that built into the processor?

I'd always thought not, but if anyone knows of a way please do tell :)

L3 cache is likely external DDR SRAM clocked at half the processors MHz rating.

While it is external it is soldered to the CPU daughtercard. Then there are most likely jumper settings to mess with - which are probably also soldered to the daughter card.

Usually not something that falls under a usual mac hack - and definitely voids your warranty.
