I think Yes... leaving any electronic device in direct sunlight can result in some kind of damage.
Depends on how long that device remains cooking in the heat.
But, I also believe that it would not be a good plan to try it, and I do not recommend it...

Is this concerning something that you have done recently? Or, just a curious question?
 
As other said it depends. No electronic should be left in direct sunlight forever but if you're outside working and your computer feels hot, move inside. If you're at a desk with a window, not a huge concern since the temperature inside is probably reasonable.

Even us humans are vulnerable to the sunlight. It would worst if it were in the midnight color. In direct sun, it would get so hot you could not lay your hand on it.
 
LCD for sure. The diffuser sheets are made of plastic and can warp. The LCD crystals can lose alignment. You can Google for photos of phones left under the sun and see the results.
