I don't know if my issue is really a Mac issue or a basic IMAP issue. Basically, here is my problem. I am trying to use Mailsteward to archive emails from my IMAP email accounts. Most are running on a linux server, the others are google and yahoo, not sure what they run on. I want to save my inbox, sent and trash in the Mailsteward archive. However, I want to send my junk mail to a junk folder and not archive any of it. And I don't want to archive my drafts either. My issue is that all of the folders I create are under the same namespace "INBOX". My inbox is INBOX.mbox, and for example, my sent folder is INBOX.mbox/sent.mbox. The only way I am able to selectively pick which folders I want is if I do not select the main inbox where all my new mail is, since it is the root level folder and parent of all the other folders. If I select the inbox, I get everything archived that I don't want. If I don't select is, I get only what I want, but I don't get my inbox, where the vast majority of my important mail actually is.
So, is there a way to sort the namespace of IMAP accounts so I can have 2 root level folders on the same account? I also thought about setting up some sort of filter that would send all incoming email into a different folder that would become my inbox so I could bypass the parent folder. It seems simpler, but I haven't given it much thought yet as to how to set it up. Any recommendations for the problem would be most helpful, thanks.
Edit to add: I tried setting up a different folder to filter all my incoming mail to, but Mac mail is not able to use anything other than INBOX for incoming mail, as far as I can tell. I assume that I might run into problems on my other devices if I were to go this route too, so it may not work at all that way. I'm totally stumped on this one.
