Can Macbook Air handle this:

As well as the usual email/web I need to use Illustrator/Photoshop/iMovie/FCP not at the highest level but everyday use and would be good to be able to deal with larger files. For comparison at the moment I'm using a Macbook 2.16 Ghz C2D 2gb ram.

I really like the MBA format but do I need MBP power?

Buy the 13 pro. If you can afford then with an ssd

Ultimate MBA is about as fast as your current Mac in terms of CPU power. If it can do the job fine, then MBA should be fine as well but if you're looking to upgrade, then take a look at the Pros.
