Hi.

Older.. Well used... 2012 macbook air.

Problem: power connection shows green but Mac won't turn on. Have tried all the web recs to get it to turn on but they don't work.

Questions

1. Can a macbook work without a battery?

2. Is it a difficult job to take it out yourself.

3. Some sites say the machine will run slower....can someone explain how slow that will be... I mostly use it for emails and movie downloads and also watching movies on it.

Thanks.

Older MacBooks and MacBook Pros could work without a battery but would run slower than normal. I don't know what year the cutoff is but probably around 2010-2011. Later model machines need to have a working battery installed as it is part of the power logic system.

As for removing the battery in your 2012 machine, you can see the entire procedure step by step by going to: www.ifixit.com

Your computer will, at most, run at half speed with no battery. It’s simple enough to disconnect the battery without physically removing the battery from the computer, but there’s no guarantee this would allow your computer to work.

Hey, did you do it??
I have the same problem, macbook pro A1278, I was able to turn it on, I disconnected the battery and turn it on and it did turn on the thing is if I plugged it back and try to turn it on again it wont, so I'm thinking the problem is the battery...

So I was wondering if you were able to make it run normally or had troubles and if so, what type of troubles?
Is it safe??

Thanks in advance
