I just got a PM regarding one of my posts in the MacRumors news forum and I think it's worth having a discussion in regards to how this site posts news stories. The post in question was in the Spotify news report talking about app developers updating their app to identify links to payment options now that the ruling came down that Apple must allow developers to have their own Payment options. Well, earlier in the day we got almost word for word the same news story for Patreon, and then yesterday MacRumors posted the Spotify story again. My comment was are we going to get a post for every app developer who does this and trying to be helpful to the editorial team that they should consolidate. I haven't seen if the post got removed but I just got a PM saying it was off topic.

I'm sorry, this is the an annoyance I've had since I first started here and I think it needs to be addressed. What constitutes as a news story on this forum? Why does MacRumors spam their forum with like 10+ stories a day, most of which can be probably combined to have a more cohesive thought? I mean there was a post yesterday talking about the Iphone 18 and the 17 hasn't even been introduced yet. Does every single thought have to be a news story? Can we get the editors to take a step back and maybe consider if something has to be news or not?

You don't want me providing constructive criticism in the thread in question? Fine. I'll do it here. You guys should take maybe 2 or 3 days off. Either that or start consolidating your news stories. I get you need to provide content and pay the bills, but when does it become too much? That Spotify story didn't need to be posted twice, yet that's exactly what happened.

There is no contradiction between acknowledging that this is Arn's site, - indeed, his to do with as he pleases - while also simultaneously advancing the argument that - or, accepting that - the News Stories section could usefully undergo a considerable degree of improvement, part of which might include the idea of consolidation of identical news stories, or, at the very least, desist or refrain from repeating them, unless something further, or worthwhile can be added to the story.

And there is a difference - a difference well illustrated by @sjsharksfan12's post, which I would argue is the former - between honest feedback in the form of constructive criticism, and complaining for the sake of venting.

I think I said that indirectly when I admitted that this site needs content and to pay the bills. As for up to date articles, there were three articles posted about the same topic in less than a 24 hour period. There's up to date, and then there is overkill. I've gone to other news sites and they don't do that. I also don't see other sites talking about Iphone 19 or Iphone 20, but then I come here more than I go over there. Maybe I'm just not paying enough attention.
