So basically, can I use a MBA to control a Mac Mini (i.e. - Display the mac mini display on the MBA display and use MBA Keyboard and trackpad (within same wifi network))

I currently use a ipad pro and use jump desktop to control my mac mini, but this is a little bit clunky. (My mac mini is effectively being used as a server)

I may be missing something completely obvious, or it may just not be possible. Any help / advice / opinions appreciated.

Thanks

I would say try the Apple screen sharing app - it's in the utilities folder in your Apps folder. You have to enable screen sharing on your Mini through settings, then connect with username/password or via iCloud, if they're both on the same account. That's basically it.

The built-in screen sharing should work fine for this. I use it all the time to manage both a 2012 and an m4 Mini on my LAN. The 2012 Mini is "headless" with no screen, keyboard or mouse. I use a dummy HDMI plug on the 2012 Mini that I got on Amazon for less than $10. It works without that, but comes up with some odd (low) resolution. The m4 Mini has a keyboard and mouse.

Only possible issue is that screen sharing doesn't give you any sound. However, if the Mini is right there in the same room, you will still hear any sounds from its speakers (or any external audio you connect).

I use my green sharing on 3 MacBooks and macmni via a network without iCloud enabled.
