It's a white 24" 2.16 ghz Core 2 Duo. It has what looks like a monitor plug in the back next to the firewire and usb ports, but don't know for sure? Anybody know if these can drive external monitors in additional it's build in one?

great! When getting a second one, will pretty much any monitor work? I'm needing the seconde monitor for music work, not photoshop or visual stuff, just need it to be clear, doesn't have to be gorgeous. Mostly needs to be dirt cheap...

Yes. The second monitor can either be a "mirror" of your desktop or an extension of the desktop.

Yes just about any monitor will work that has DVI, VGA and/or HDMI. You will simply need the correct adapter cable. Your iMac has a Mini DVI output port, you will need a Mini DVI to DVI, VGA or HDMI adapter cable. If the external monitor has DVI and/or VGA it really doesn't matter which way you go the quality will be the same for the type of work you are doing.

Terrific! Thank you for the info. I'm feeling less claustrophobic already.
