I friend of mine bought me an iphone 4 whilst in New York last week. I live in South Africa and i cant get the phone to work on my network due to it being locked to AT&T. I was told it was easy to unlock the phone but it seems like because i have the 4.0.2 software its more of an issue. If anyone has some advice id appreciate it, i have already cut my old simcard down so i can even put it back in my old phone.

Thanks,
Andrew

I've been trying to figure this out myself. I just got an iPhone 4 and it comes with iOS 4.0.2.

After spending hours on researching this, here's my understanding.

Baseband 1.59.0 can be unlocked.
However, you must jailbreak the phone before you can unlock it.

You can't currently jailbreak iOS 4.0.2

No good solution to downgrade iOS 4.0.2 to iOS 4.0.1

iOS 4.0.1 can easily be jailbroken.

inter your iphone info and the site will say its unlockable or not and also show you the tutorial

I just had a look at that site and it doesnt have the 4.0.2 software as an option. Looks like i might need to get a new simcard for my old phone, so i have something to use until i can figure out how to get this phone unlocked.

yeah thats a bummer that new iPhone 4 comes with 4.0.2 :( hopefully 4.1 will get working JB and UL fast :)

Well I suppose I'll just have to use my old phone till it comes out. How long do these jailbreaks usually take to come out, a week, two weeks, a month?

Andrew

They never said anything about an unlock though. We should see a new jb for 4.1 soon but not sure about an unlock.

they actually say everything needed including unlock just stay tuned with them and read their new posts carefully. in case you are not comfortable with their site use iclarified which explains with more details.
