Can my mac handle this?

I plan on buying the haupaugge HD PVR to record some tv and some video of me playing xbox 360 to improve my video editing skills. The pvr can record in up to 1080i, can my macbook pro 2.5ghz with 512 8600 card handle the load?

Yes.

Also the graphic card is not important with most editing applications, as those rely on the CPU.

What editing software do you want to use?

I plan on starting out with imovie and then moving onto to something more professional

You have to transcode your recorded videos to a .mov file using the Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) via the export menu of the Haupauge if possible or MPEG Streamclip, as the recorded video files will be highly compressed.
