So I went to purchase 2 16gb RAM sticks on my mid 2017 3068 from a seller on eBay and they messaged me (after I bought 2 8gb and thought I should just go to 2 16gb-32GB IN hindsight and wanted to return) that my model, which I gave them specs, processor a 2.3 i5 would only handle 16gb of RAM. Here you have the same computer as mine and your putting in 32. I know, eBay seller. But can I put in 2 16gb for 32 in my model without hurting the processor? Didn’t sound right a processor should be happy to have more running memory. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Here's what eBay seller said:

Thanks for the message. The memory is correct, according to your Mac serial number, and the maximum your Mac can handle. You cannot go up to 32GBs, only 16GBs, 2x8GBs. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Best regards,
Rex

Here's what IFix it says:
Update: iFixit has discovered that the RAM and CPU in the 2017 21.5-inch iMac are once again socketed, making RAM upgrades possible. The new iMacs ship with 8GB of 2400MHz (mine is actually 2133mhz) DDR4 memory (2x4GB) in the default configuration. For those who want to upgrade, the entry-level i5-based iMac supports up to 32GB of 2400MHz DDR4

Can someone tell me what I can put in my slow ass iMac......Thanks Dave

I haven’t tried personally on a non-retina 2017 21.5 - but I can confirm 64GB works on a retina 4K 2017 21.5. Intel does say that the i5 7360U can run a maximum of 32GB, so I would be inclined to think that's the max.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I thought. I researched further and found that it is possible to upgrade to 32 (2@ 16gb)

Found this guy on Amazon who did it without problem so it can be done. There is a guy who tried on IFix it site who commented he tried but screen wouldn't come up on boot up. Could have been something else but when he put he oem RAM back in it fired up....so....I just bought the 2 16b
