Can my new(old) Macbbok pro do stuff whilst asleep?

Hullo,
I was wondering if my new, last week old mac that is my first ever mac can do anything whilst asleep?

For instance, could I not set an iCal alarm which would ring despite my mac being closed and asleep?

And hows about downloads carrying on when shut?

Oh, yes, and what if I get a cable and play videos etc. through my television, can I not shut my lid.

When the computer is sleeping, it's sleeping, plain and simple. Can you remember an appointment when YOU sleep? Thought so.

You CAN however, plug in an external display/TV, and with an external keyboard and mouse you CAN wake the MBP while the lid is down. This is called clamshell mode and is supported by all mac laptops. The internal screen will stay off and your image will only be on the external display.

I'm assuming that's what you want to do.

You can, however, install thinks that keep it awake when the lid is closed.
