Can my PS3 download while its off?

I purchased a game that is 7GB from PSN and that will take at least 6 hours to download.


Can I use background download to keep on downloading while the ps3 is off, or it must be on until the download is over?

Has to be on but there's a check box that says shut down PS3 after download finishes

Do you have PS+? If so, let it download during it's scheduled download time. It downloads+installs+switches off automatically.

I do , but how can I tell the system to download this specific game in a schedule time?

Settings, automatic downloads. It will then let you pick a time.
