I use Transmission as my app - I keep my rMBP by my bed.

I'd prefer to be able to just start a torrent, close her up, then check back in an hour to see if it's completed?

I know it can (and does) check for and download system updates - is there a link to what else she can do while she's "asleep"?

I'd even like to be across the house with my iPad and check in - just not sure what's allowed and what's safe? I definitely don't want her to overheat.

Thanks for any info or links - for my iPad, I use Splashtop Streamer - have never even tried it with the lid closed, though.

Nope, because Transmission doesn't support App Nap.

That said, you can still do that. Put your rMBP into clamshell mode (connect it to a power source, keyboard, mouse and external display, then close the lid) and there you go.

Turn down the screen brightness to zero or set the screen to sleep with a hot corner, the download'll keep going and you won't be bothered by your screen.
