Can new M1 Max 16" MBP run Big Sur?

It looks like many of the programs I use are not yet supported on Monterey. So I need to stay with Big Sur for now.
I've ordered new 16" MBP which is scheduled to ship late November-early December.

Is there anyway to run Monterey on M1 Max? Using VMWare Fusion perhaps?

That doesn't look like what I am trying to achieve....
 
You cannot downgrade from the version of macOS that originally shipped on the system.
 
My 16 inch launch day model shipped with Big Sur installed I had to update to Monterey!

I am not trying to down grade to Big Sur, I am hoping to run a virtual machine (e.g., VMWare Fusion) to run Big Sur so that I can still access programs that I need.

I presume VMWare Fusion and Parallel are not yet compatible with Monterey to allow one to run Big Sur on it's virtual platform?

It has been discussed many times before.
One point being, drivers and hardware support for new devices aren‘t available in OS releases older than said device.
With Monterey officially released, Big Sur doesn‘t even get bug fixes anymore, only security relevant updates.

you’d think Apple would be a little more cognizant of this problem being that they’re not just upgrading the OS they’ve got a whole new processor inside, The M1 hasn’t even been out a year and a half!
oh well I guess many of us music people will have to wait on the M1 pros etc.
 
That's a downside to being a first adopter. There is no way to downgrade the system. By now, hopefully your apps have been updated to be compatible with the new operating system. Can you run an older OS in a VM? Possibly. I haven't tried that on the new ARM processors.

Interesting I don’t know if they will run under a VM. i’ve got the MacBook Air M1 running Big Sur and lot of the plug-ins for logic and ProTools still have to run under Rosetta. I can’t imagine how long it will take them to get their act together for Monterey :)

I am sure they’ll have them out by the time OS 15 comes around. ;)
