I have a mid-2012 MacBook Pro on which I recently reinstalled El Capitan. I also have a Time Capsule (2011) that I use as a tethered hard drive for photos (I have no internet where it is used due to house construction) and before erase/reinstall I put all my machine's data (basically just photos, documents, mail and applications) on the TC. All has gone well and I have a blazingly fast machine again which is wonderful.
However, I cannot now reconnect to my TC to retrieve all my data. Connected by an ethernet cable (as it used to be) my Macbook tells me there are three problems.
(1) no ethernet connection - in which case how has it found it???
(2) there is no internet - which has never bothered it before
(3) there are no DNS servers - which would be logical
I have taken the MacBook and the TC to my router to try and establish a connection there, and after a hard reset (reset button pushed in for five seconds till it blinks fast) I still get the same situation after going through the Airport Utility processes. Airport Utility sees the TC, but I still cannot find it anywhere on my system (it used to appear on my desktop and in Finder, obviously).
I suspect I am being thick here, so I duly ask if anyone can help a thick person out and reconnect me to my TC. Sigh.
