Can not enter printer's Host Name into the browser

Hi,

I just bought a new HP 8600 Plus printer. I set my printer host name to HP8600. On my PC, I can enter the host name into the URL and the HP Web Interface will come up. I am unable to do this with my Mac. I can only get to it with entering the IP. When I enter the host name on my Mac it tries to resolves it and goes to Google. I'm using Firefox on both browsers. Do you know what could be the issue? Thank you.

It's probably using NetBEUI or some other Windows protocol that the Mac isn't recognizing for broadcasting its name. If it's just the one device & you don't want to fiddle with finding the protocol, you can just edit your hosts file:
