Every time I plug my ipod into itunes it prompts me to download the newer software version (4.1, I'm running 4.0 on my 3rd gen right now). So I click update and agree to the terms and the update starts downloading, about 10 minutes or so. Right when it's about to finish downloading, a message pops up saying that there was an error downloading and the network timed out. This happens every time I try. Nothing is wrong with out home network...anyone have any suggestions? Anyone else had this problem? Any help would be appreciated.

  1. Download the software at the link below.
  2. Save it to an easily memorable and navigable part of your hard drive.
  3. Back up your iPod.
  4. option/alt-click "Restore" in the device window after the backup has completed.
  5. Select the firmware from the context menu
  6. Wait for your iPod to erase, update, and resync itself.

Download links (direct from Apple) for anyone else with this problem:

iPhone 3GS

iPod touch 2nd Gen
iPod touch 3rd Gen
iPod touch 4th Gen
