I take a lot of screenshots for reference using "cmd+shift+4" hotkey, but to get to them, I have to open Finder and navigate to the screenshots folder than I configured my Mac to save them in. However, these recently created files do not appear in "Apple->About->Recent Items-Documents" menu. They do appear in "Finder->Recents", but then I have to switch to Finder which isn't always convenient.

Is there a way to have recently created screenshost appear in the "recent items" list?

So far I looked in Finder preferences and also in System Preferences->General, but I didn't see any pertinent settings there. I'm out of ideas, unless I can perhaps add the screenshots folder to the doc.

Ideas?

Clicking and dragging the screenshots folder onto the Dock worked. I haven't added folders to the Dock for a very long time and forgot that was even an option. I'm happy with this solution and will leave it here for someone who has the same question in the future.

If you have an even better solution, feel free to post it, but I'm good.

In Monterey, you can press Command-Shitft-5 and click Options to change some screenshot settings such as the default save location.
I'm not sure about Catalina - I would have to reboot to find out. But it looks like you've already been able to change the default save location.
Recent Items is for items that you've recently opened or connected. I don't see a way to affect this without actually opening the screenshot.

Besides the dock, you can drag folders into the Favorites section of a Finder window's Sidebar.
