iPad mini Can sims be switched from old mini to new Retina Mini

I have a first gen LTE mini on Verizon. Can I get a retina mini on any LTE carrier and swap the sim from my current mini to the new retina mini?

If thats the case, it will be easier to find a new one since I can choose from any LTE carrier...

Yes this should work just fine. I put a Verizon sim from an active iPhone 5 into my T-Mobile iPad Air & it worked right away no issues. Should be the same for you.

I had no issues. Had a verizon ipad mini and got an att retina mini. Just swapped in the sim and it works just fine.
