it like this when i run anything internet or program it go to like a sleep mode .even the fan turn off into i hit the keyboard . not shutdown like just the screen and what sounds like a fan.

Can you take it to an Apple Store or reseller to look at?

Check in Apple Menu>System Preferences>Energy Saver. Is the time the computer is set to sleep something ridiculously low like 1 minute? If it is, push it out to 20-30 minutes and see if that doesn't solve the problem.

they gave it to my son and im trying to see if its worth saving ,to tell you the truth i live in the bronx and i never even seen a store that deals with mac

It sounds like it's just going into sleep mode or maybe the screensaver is activating (although you should see something (like moving colors or pictures) on the screen if the later were the case).

I don't know if this even matters at all but It's strange that (in the picture that you posted) your Menu Bar only has one option.

My best guess at this point would be to insert the install DVD inside the drive and restart the computer, maybe do a fresh install of OSX.

Anyway, if it was given, at least try to re-install OSX before throwing it away.

And seriously, I've never been more clueless about how to help on a post before
