I did a few searches, but could never find the right answer. I apologize in advance if this has been discussed and I didn't find it.

I am debating between the 15" and the 17" MBP's.

Now, onto my question. If I get the 15", and a 24" external monitor that is 1920 x 1200 native resolution, will the 15" be able to use that resolution as a secondary monitor? Or will I only be able to use the highest resolution of the 15" MBP on the external.

Thank you so much.

EDIT

Does anyone know which models the Apple Store stocks of the 15"?

I know they have a base and a higher end (200GB HD, 2.6, hi-res matte) version of the 17 at the store in addition to the base model.

A 15" MBP can drive any external monitor up to 2560x1600 (the size of a 30" LCD display), so yes it will drive that monitor just fine.

Of course, only in "extend desktop" mode. If you're mirroring, it will only go as high as the internal display.
