After much searching around google, filtering out useless information "way too many", and trying to find out if the 1st generation ipod can use fring to make skype calls through the wifi, I stumbled across this: http://www.macblogz.com/2008/11/26/first-generation-ipod-touch-to-support-voip-through-firmware-22/
It basically says that 1st generation ipod + 2.2 firmware + the Macally iVoiceIII Microphone + fring "VOIP application through the apple store" and you can actually use the 1st gen ipod touch to make skype calls.
Can anyone confirm this?
Edit: Well, its been confirmed. Good News 1st generation iPod Touch users! With the 2.2 Firmware and the Macally iVoiceIII you can now make skype phone calls through Fring. You can download Fring through the App Store for free. Here is the forum I found confirming this: http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118328
Even better news, the 1st generation iPod Touch with 2.2 firmware can be jailbroken. Just update your iPod Touch through iTunes and then use QuickPwn 2.2. The 2nd generation iPods can't be jailbroken so, yeah! 1st gen wins baby
