Hi guys. So I recently just purchased a MacBook Pro 16 and everything was going fine until today. In the middle of usage, everything just stopped working. The display was still on. Touch was on. Trackpad was frozen and unclickable. Has anyone ever experienced these issues or know what the cause is?

it sounds like a fairly normal system crash - had them on most macs at some point over the last fifteen years, including (rarely) on the MBP16. Reboot it and see if it comes back; probably not something to worry about if it only happens every so often.

Do you have iStat Menus installed? Check for a kernel_task process running over 1000%.
Using Turbo Boost Switcher Pro to turn off Intel's Turbo Boost can help, but of course, that comes with performance consequences.
Sadly, along with external monitor based heat & fans issues...it's part of life with the 16" MBP.

Wow...really?...we've reached a point where a system crash "every so often" is considered "normal". I might as well move to Windows.

Did you start new or did you migrate to your new machine? I was going to migrate then changed my mind and added my files and apps back. I am satisfied with my decision.

If you expect your computer to never, ever crash, you’re guaranteed to be disappointed one day. Every computer crashes sometimes (even if rarely).
