Can someone please explain how to connect my MBP to a tv via HDMI.

Hi again folks,

I've done a search but none of the topics that came up really answered my question (in other words, a lot of the time it went straight over my head). I have no idea what exactly a 'VGA' or 'DVI' cable is, quite honestly the only one I understand is HDMI. I've tried reading Wikipedia articles and whatnot about them, but...whoosh...that's the sound of it still going over my head
I want to connect my MBP up to my tv via HDMI. And I want sound as well, that's a biggie. One of the topics I read said to connect a Mini Display Port to DVI cable to the MBP, then connect a DVI to HDMI cable to that and hook it up to the HDMI port on the tv. The downside is, the OP in that topic said it won't allow any sound. There was an explanation as to how to get sound...but, yes, once again I'm sorry to say it went straight over my head...

So I'd appreciate it so much if somebody could give me a bit of a tut on exactly what to do and how to obtain sound

monoprice.com sells a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor. You can run sound from your optical out to the TV's optical in, but you'll need an 1/8" to optical cable.

You can't get sound from the Mini DisplayPort.

You'll need this for video, and one of these for audio. (Or one of these if you want surround.)
