an article detailing how I move selected information properly from my iMac to my upcoming MBP?

I thought it would easy to find on the Apple site but I get pages of stuff and it doesn't appear to be what I want, or worse not for Macs

Moved eMac to iBook >> iBook to MacBook Pro.
Panther/Tiger > Tiger/Leopard > Leopard.

I saved all my User account including the Library to CDS & DVDs.
Made separate DVDs from within iTunes as I needed more than one.

My user account also included all 3rd party software dmgs and registration numbers for reinstall and all extra fonts.
Used command shift 4 to draw around mail and internet set up menus and saved the pngs.

Software was installed carefully over several days with a restart after every one.

Some just clone their old Mac and drop it into their new Mac, I prefer to make a totally fresh start without any of the rubbish collected over the years.

Leopard to Leopard isn't a problem.. Tiger to Leopard needs extra care as some software will not work and the Mail & mailbox set up has been changed.

Enjoy your MBP. ;)

Yeah, I plan to make the MBP "fresh" ... but I will bring over mail and FF

Not sure about much else other than pics and iTunes
