I charge my phone at night next to my bed and set it up on the ledge of the window. In the morning, the sun hits the front of my house pretty well and my window is full of sun all day.

My question is, could this damage the LCD of the phone? I know I could place it face down and I normally do, but I'm just wondering for curiosity's sake.

I don't think that sun is a problem but the heat that it generates could be. I wouldn't let it sit in the sun like that.

Only if it overheats it.

Unlikely since your phone is indoors.

Out at a table by the pool, facedown or pocket.

Sun light, more specifically UV rays will destroy anything given enough time. However in your situation I wouldn't worry about it. Like mentioned I'd try to keep it out of the sun due to the heat.

Overheating is the only thing I'd worry about, but if the phone is just idling on the windowsill, it's probably not an issue.
