Can the iPad mini retina or Air be used as a tablet for drawing CAD?

Can I connect either the mini retina or air to the MBP and use the ipad as a high res drawing tablet? Can the iPad be a tablet for CAD by itself?
 
I'd say no, just for the fact it lacks the precision needed that you can get from a dedicated product from wacom or others.
