Can the iPhone send SMS to email?

Using the iPhone, can you send an SMS to an email address (without using the mail app)?

Also, I know you can send email to SMS by 10digitnumber@txt.att.net... From the iPhone, can you reply to send a message back to the email address that sent it?

I just sent a text to an email address and it worked!
