this whole locking thing bothers me. mostly because I want the phone unlocked, not to jump ship so much as to have the option of getting a local sim card when traveling, or even moving. i want to know if i travel overseas can i get a sim card from say o2 in london and have it work in my american bought phone? I think this should be possible if it isn't

Being you're in the US - please do stop and find out first. Going in the other direction, I'm almost positive it could work. They tend to be a lot more open and integrated with their networks. You know what ATT is like over here though. Claws are in DEEP.

im going to say no, not unless you activated the phone (through iTunes) with the new sim

Im just guessing though
