Does anyone know if the power button on the Apple TV 4K (3rd gen) be used for IR to power on a TV??

I currently have my Apple TV connected to a Sony TV and use CEC, so when I press the power button on remote, it wakes up the Apple TV which then in turn wakes up the TV.

Sony CEC isn't great, so most times I press the power button to turn on the Apple & TV, the TV turns on the goes straight back into standby mode, so I have to wait a few seconds then press the Apple remote power button again.

It used to do the same thing when I had an Nvidia Shield. It's an issue with Sony's CEC implementation.

I also recently had a Roku Ultra, and the Roku remote works only with the Roku device EXCEPT the volume and power buttons. These were IR and would ONLY work with the TV (not the Roku device).
This setup worked perfectly with my TV - as the power button on remote turned by TV on by IR, and the rest of the buttons controlled the Roku.

The Apple TV remote has the option to change the volume buttons between auto, IR or CEC - but the power button only seems to control the Apple TV box.
Is there any way to change the power button to be IR for the TV instead?

No it can’t, however you can program the TVs power button on to the Mute button using the remote learning tool.

Thanks - that's a possible work around, but would confuse my kids when they want to mute something and the TV turns off.
