Can the Sidebar be reset?

All of a sudden anytime I open a folder it opens with my favorites covering 2/3rds of the page

When I drag the favorites to the left it edits the current folder but any new folder I open has this weird layout that just started happening

Any ideas?

Like most other settings, this is stored in a property list file somewhere. It's just a matter of finding which one. I'd start with ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Finder.plist and look for similar ones if deleting that file doesn't clear it up. Remember to relaunch the Finder after removing its settings file, for the change to take effect.
