Can threads be closed and moved to the archive without explanation?

There is no moderator note on the reason for it being closed?

The thread linked above was not archived but sent to the wasteland. This typically done for a variety of reasons including threads that have little actual conversational material, i.e., garbage threads. The thread in question starts off with "to all blind fans" Clearly the OP was not looking to actually start a discussion and given the responses the best place for this thread is the wasteland.
