I'm thinking of purchasing a 1TB and a 500GB G-Technology hard drive.

The G-Drive Q's. I'll use FW800. I love the fanless design.

I will piggy back them, so they will both always be on when plugged in. I want to store photos on the 500GB and reference them in Aperture. I want the 1TB drive for TimeMachine. Can TimeMachine backup my laptop (MBP) and the external Aperture drive to the 1TB?

I would assume so. But I haven't played with it, so I'm not sure.

Thanks

It can, by default it will put your external disk into Do not backup list.

so once you remove it from the list, it will back it up.

You may want to look into Super Duper also. I've seen some people devise solutions that incorporate both Super Duper and Time Machine but I find the features of SD offer that of an end to end backup solution.

Thanks!

I'll check out and see what Super Duper can do.

I'm just disappointed how rare FW800 is on some of the devices I really want. And when I do find them on something, they have this huge fan on them....I just know it'll hum me crazy.
