Can two HomePod Minis be used as a stereo setup with a Mac? I want to buy 2 home pod minis and use it with my Mac, would it work over Bluetooth or AirPlay?

Not sure two regular HomePods can be stereo pair on the Mac...
I’m talking about the new HomePod mini, Why wouldn’t airplaying from the MacBook Pro to the homepods work? Maybe Bluetooth?

I know, I’m just pointing out you can’t do it with the big brother HomePod as far as I know so unlikely you can with the junior.

You can play to the HomePod from Mac; just not as a stereo pair. I may be wrong, maybe it’s been added recently or is included with the next MacOS...

The stereo pairing is automatic with the HomePod mini. Apple pointed out that specific feature (automatic stereo when 2 homepod minis are detected) yesterday during the announcement video.

Only when using Apple Music & Apple TV app will the pair show up if you created it using the Home app. This is on macOS Big Sur. Not possible in older versions. Cannot be used outside of those apps as of right now... You have to hit the AirPlay button in the Apple Music & Apple TV app for it to show up. I believe this is because those are Catalyst apps...

So basically what I described above will be doable with the new HomePod Mini? Based on your statement I understand the original isn’t capable but the new Mini HomePod is. Would I simply AirPlay from the Macbrook Pro to the HomePod Mini Stereo Pair or will a Bluetooth connection of some sort is required?

What about the status bar in the top on MacOS, can’t I AirPlay Mirror ALL sound to the HomePods Mini Stereo setup by enabling AirPlay from there? Also, how do you know it doesn’t work with the HomePonds Mini? They weren’t released yet. Based on what I understand it won’t work with the original HomePod but should work with the HomePod mini as some users here claim on the forum

I don't recall if Apple mentioned the details of the setup.
Just that if the Apple device was playing audio, through homepod, and the device detected a second homepod, that stereo switching happens.
Watch the video again... Homepod mini was the first item, so it would be sometime during the first 15 minutes, IIRC.
(And, I am NOT claiming anything beyond what I remember seeing in the intro video yesterday.)

so basically what I’d like to achieve should work? (Connecting 2 HomePod minis to my MacBook Pro and use them as the left and right speaker channels on the desktop), would I connect them via AirPlay or Bluetooth? I’d like all sound from the Mac to be played on the HomePod Mini Stereo Pair.

I can achieve a 2.1 setup by getting the Harman Kardon sound sticks 4 which has 2 speakers and subwoofer, the Mac would connect to it via Bluetooth so it’s very simple and straightforward but I think I’d like a setup that includes 2 HomePod minis better if possible

Watch the video.
I don't know the answers to your questions, except what I have seen on the video, and what info is available at the Apple web site. The HomePod mini connects through wifi or bluetooth, and certainly works with AirPlay. It will sense when a U1-equipped iPhone comes near.
The integration with HomeKit will probably be nice.
The intercom feature looks like it would be useful to some folks. Also, Siri will probably work like you might expect.

And, finally, HomePod mini can be ordered starting Nov 6, available 10 days later.
(Done with the sales speak...) You will probably get more answers, once the HomePod mini starts shipping.

Only allows thru individual homepods through the new control center on the status bar.
