Hi, I'm a new using mac and think to have done a big mess.
I was trying to install gnuplot and I would like to run it directly from the shell, like in a unix system.
I read in some forums that I had to modify the path...actually i don't really know what I'm talking about, I just thought I had to tell the shell where to go and search gnu plot, nothing more.
Anyway I wrote on the shell

echo export PATH=".:$/Applications/Gnuplot.app/Contents/Resources/bin/gnuplot:/usr/local/bin" > .profile

modifying the hidden file .profile.

The problem I have now is
1) I can't use anymore the the basic command in the shell, such as cat, top, rm for example.
2) obvioulsy I didn't solve the problem with gnuplot and I still have to run it in a separate shell.

Can you help me please to fix these problems?
thank you.
