Can Vector artwork be imported into a website?

Attached is my logo, which I'm not quite happy with (I'm going to apply a black outline stroke to my text, and maybe a brushed steel effect for the background. Feel free to critique!
Now, I was amazed when I first tried to import work into a website the it was all .gif's. Now surely there is a way to import vector? Vector is cool and what computers were made for.
I'm also having a problem with filetypes with Quark, my business cards the logo is blurred despite being vector . Why are there so many damn filetypes that will not work in perfect harmony with each other?

If you save it in a high enough quality of .jpeg it should be fine.

Well, you could embed it on the page as a scalable vector graphic (SVG) (Alternate), but the support for that isn't 100%. I don't use Quark so can't help there.
